Best Time for a Newborn Session in Dallas

The best time to schedule your newborn photography session is within the first 7–16 days after birth. During this stage, babies are sleepier, naturally curled, and easier to pose for those classic newborn images. After 2–3 weeks, babies become more alert and less flexible, making traditional newborn posing more challenging. For examples of these early, softly posed portraits, you can view the newborn photography gallery.

How to Book Your Newborn Photography Session

It’s best to book your newborn photography session during pregnancy to ensure availability within the ideal 7–16 day window. I only accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month, so pre-booked clients receive priority scheduling. Once you’re admitted for delivery, simply reach out and I’ll begin holding space on my calendar. After you and baby are home, we’ll finalize your session date. Typically scheduled 6–10 days after discharge for those soft, sleepy newborn portraits. You can explore full details on the newborn booking process here.

Full vs. Mini Newborn Photography Sessions

The full newborn photography session is a 3–5 hour experience design ed for a complete, fully styled gallery. It includes 10–12 setups (props, poses, and macro details like hands, lips, and feet), resulting in 20–25 edited images. Family and sibling photos are included at no additional cost and typically add 6–8 more images. The mini newborn session is a shorter, streamlined option where baby remains wrapped for the entire session. This allows for 3–4 simple, refined setups, delivering 10–12 digital images. Family and sibling photos are not included, but can be added for an additional fee. All sessions are baby-led, meaning timing may vary slightly to ensure a calm, comfortable experience. After booking, you’ll receive a detailed newborn session prep guide along with a questionnaire to customize your colors and styling preferences.

Is It Too Late for Newborn Photography?

If your baby has already arrived and is past the ideal 7–16 day newborn photography window, don’t worry—you may still have options. While I always recommend booking in advance, I occasionally have last-minute availability. After the first two weeks, babies tend to be more alert, sensitive to movement, and less naturally curled, which can make traditional posed newborn photography more limited. However, every baby is different, and beautiful images are still absolutely possible. For older newborns, I typically recommend a mini newborn session, where baby remains wrapped for comfort. This approach works especially well for older infants and NICU babies, allowing for a relaxed experience and soft, natural portraits, often with open eyes and gentle expressions. While classic posed images may be more limited, your baby’s story can still be captured beautifully at any stage.

Choosing Props & Color Palette for Your Newborn Session

After booking your newborn photography session, you’ll receive a detailed styling questionnaire to select your preferred colors, props, and overall aesthetic. You’re welcome to share inspiration or specific ideas, or simply choose from curated options. If you’re unsure, I’ll guide you through everything in the studio—helping you select a cohesive, timeless setup that reflects your style while keeping the focus on your baby.

Are Makeup & Designer Gowns Included in Newborn Sessions?

Professional makeup and designer gowns are not included in standard newborn photography collections. However, you can upgrade to a fine art Mommy & Me newborn session for an additional fee. This add-on includes 1–2 couture designer gowns, a styled backdrop, and a refined editing style, along with 3–5 additional high-resolution images. This portion is completed on the same day as your newborn session. Standard family photos included in your collection feature a clean, minimal white aesthetic, as seen throughout the newborn portfolio. You can upgrade to a Fine Art Mommy & Me newborn session—similar to the styling seen in my Dallas fine art maternity photography.

Do You Offer In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography?

In-home lifestyle newborn sessions are thoughtfully designed for families who prefer a more organic, intimate experience within the comfort of their own home. This collection is $825 and includes a 1.5–2 hour session with 25–30 high-resolution, fully edited digital images and print release. Family and sibling portraits are seamlessly included. Rather than posed studio setups, these sessions focus on natural connection, soft light, and genuine moments—creating imagery that feels effortless, refined, and deeply personal. I bring a curated selection of wraps, outfits, and delicate accessories, while thoughtfully incorporating your home’s natural textures and light. Lifestyle newborn sessions offer added flexibility and may be scheduled up to 4 weeks after birth, allowing you time to settle in while still preserving this fleeting season beautifully. A travel fee may apply for locations beyond a 40-mile radius of 75089.

Can Pets or Extended Family Be Included in Newborn Sessions?

For the comfort and safety of all clients, pets are not permitted in the studio. If you’d love to include your pet, I recommend an in-home lifestyle newborn session, where your baby can be photographed naturally alongside your family in a relaxed setting. Newborn session collections include immediate family only (parents and siblings). If you wish to include extended family members, this can be accommodated for an additional fee.

If you’re looking to continue documenting your growing family, you can explore maternity photography or view family portrait sessions for a cohesive, timeless experience.
